Philip the Bard's Harappan Blog: Lanice and Paladin II

Greetings handsome readers. Thanks for being here.

This week we’re talking about Lanice Thain and her son Paladin Jr. Their ends was one of the more tragic stories of the Galactic War. They weren’t actually involved in the war itself. It certainly was part of Lanice’s plan to take a leadership role in the political situation at the time. History had other plans for her.

She staged her coup as soon as Dorian left Kusha to attend a global peace conference on Earth. She actually was the leadership of Kusha for over eight months. Eight long months.

She shut down the news papers and radio station. We didn’t have regular 3deo broadcasts then so she had complete control of information available to Kushans and Harappans. The Tarsans were supporting her and advising her. At least as long as she served their purpose. History tells us they dropped her as soon as she no longer served them.

Fortunately her reign was short lived and we moved on. Most Harappans remember her brief interruption of Kushan government. Her action also planted the seed in Dorian’s mind that he had to make some provisions for a smooth transition of power once he was ready to step down.

One of his first acts when he returned to power was to set up a commission to re-write the constitution and set up a formal transfer of power mechanism. In my mind the perfect leaders is one who does not wish for nor relish the mantle of leadership. That was my friend Dorian.

Tomorrow, we’ll talk some about young Paladin’s life.
