Greetings fancy readers. Thanks for being here.
Yes, the Galactic neighborhood is a fairly boring place and yesterday we discussed how that is a good thing. Humanity would not have had the time to evolve to our present state if this part of space was “interesting”.
We have since then had the opportunity to expand our explorations and we have found some interesting places. That is not to say that the SIDs early explorations found nothing of interest.
There was planet PSR J1719-1438 b. This is a planet made entirely of diamond. This world was actually discovered in the early 21st century. I know some of you may have a hard time imagining ancient Earthers having that kind of technology, but apparently, they had developed considerable technology and scientific mastery before the fall later in that century.
The story was that Earth scientists had identified this world with their early technology but lacked the means to get there to check it out. Earth scientists kept this world marked on their star charts and when they had the ability to go it was one of the first places they went.
Yes, the world was made of diamond, but debris and radiation in the vicinity made it too dangerous to acquire any of that precious material. That big fat diamond sits there still mostly untouched, a tantalizing forbidden fruit.
Tomorrow: More space oddities.
