Welcome fresh readers. Thanks for being here.
The story of Paladin Thain II and his mother Lanice is one of the saddest tales in Harappan history. Every school child knows how they ended up. Paladin’s story is just a sad example of someone forced into things he was not prepared for. His fate was not a result of his own actions but of his mother’s.
Lanice’s tale is more about karmic retribution. Most people feel she got no less than she deserved, much like Mary Carmini. Paladin, however, is an object of pity. The poor kid never had a chance. His mother spoiled him as a young child, which directly led him to his fate.
People so loved young Paladin’s father that they still believe, that had he had the chance, he would have matured into someone to be proud of. I’ve had more than one conversation over beers about which profession Paladin would have followed had he been given the opportunity for a long healthy life.
Such things may be fun pub conversation but futile in reality. In reality Paladin never got that chance. His opportunities ended very early on for him. The rest of his life being something that all Harappans who remember his father mourn deeply.
Never mix red wine and Oodo.
