Notes from the Author: The Galactic Calendar

Notes From the Author

When Is Philip’s Blog?

Some of you may have noticed at the bottom of Philip the Bard’s Harappan blog are two dates, Kushan Year 87 and Earth Year 2479. The novel “The Gavaskar Field” takes place in Earth Year 2411.

The interim is covered in the two novels “Kusha” and “The Mother of the Galaxy”.

Philip’s blog is being written during the last chapter of “The Mother of the Galaxy”. There will be an event in a couple of months (I wont say which one) that will appear in both the blog and in the novel but from different perspectives.

There is no common galactic calendar. Each planet has its own system of years and days. Harappa has a year of 308 days which are twenty-seven hours long. Lava has no seasons or day/night pattern so it has adopted the Earth Calendar. Kusha has a 350 day year and the days are just over twenty-five Earth hours.
