Welcome beautiful readers. Thanks for being here.
Last weeks science blog tackled the issue of debating with creationists. I argued that their dogma got in the way of logical reasoning.
There is another issue where that happens and that is climate science. For some reason one political party in the US has made the environment a partisan issue.
Recently Neil Degrasse - Tyson’s Cosmos program spent quite a bit of time explaining the science regarding the climate. The next day on one particular news program the guest said “I hate that guy!” He hates him! Wow, that seems a bit over the top but there is indeed passion there.
Normally I think passion is a good thing but when it is misguided by propaganda that is false and misleading it becomes a very bat thing.
I believe skepticism of science is a good thing. There have been abuses of science throughout history. Science is sometimes wrong. But making science into a political football is insane.
I sometimes joke that since I have no kids I don’t really care about climate change. The worst that will happen will most likely happen after I’m gone. But, I have friends with kids. I know some young people who will soon want kids. Can I be so heartless about their future?
Not if I want to call myself a moral person.
