Philip the Bard's Harappan Blog: What is Oodo.

What is Oodo?

Some of you may have noticed that I often end my posts with “Never mix red wine and Oodo”. Some of you have asked me what is Oodo.

Oodo is an adult beverage fermented from a Harappan grain called Odokalie. The drink was created by Mandan nomads on Harappa and will kick your ass (pardon my Salusian).

The Mandan roamed the northeastern corner of the Great Valley and the northern reaches of the Green Mountains. They were primarily sheepherders but did have some agricultural villages. They traded wool with the Caelumites and Salusians for manufactured goods.

I know the Mandan because I am married to one. My wife Ina was raised Mandan. She was also an apprentice to Arok Sen one of Marcus Johnson’s librarians.

I had my first experience with Oodo when I met Ina. Dorian and I were escorting Rodin (a librarian who lived with us in the White Mountains) through Mandan country on our way to Harappaholm the fortress of the librarians.

The Mandan captured us as trespassers, but Rodin’s connection to Arok Sen set us free and we celebrated with the locals and with their local drink, Oodo. Oh, Johnson’s woes, I had such a hangover!

I’m told it’s a funny story but it’s been told better than I could in Volume One of the Harappan History Project “The Harappan Secrets”. So, tomorrow I will post an excerpt from that volume. I think you will enjoy it.

Never mix red wine with Oodo. (after tomorrow you’ll know why)
