The year is 2410. Melanie Gavaskar is a brilliant physics student from planet Harappa who discovers that the Faster Than Light Starships of the government are destroying the underlying fabric of the universe (the Gavaskar Field). When she finds her lab is destroyed, she is forced to go on the run and winds up on Lava, a pioneer planet that is tipped on it’s side. She becomes the owner of a saloon in a dusty back road town after the previous owner is killed by a stray bullet, from a gunfight in the street.
