Car Troubles

Ah, car troubles! Those of you who follow me here and on facebook know that I just returned from a long road trip (2500 miles). Now just days after my return home I had to have my car towed to the shop this morning. Not fun but I could have broken down in the middle of Bumf@#k Montana.

For that I am immensely grateful.

Let me say that I love my vehicle. I've even named it (Casper). Now that you know that I can say I have less than positive thoughts about the individuals who designed the car.

When I was a kid I worked in full service gas stations (remember them?). I did tune ups, oil changes, and even rebuilt a few engines. I wouldn't go near a modern car with a wrench anymore.

Today's problem was probably the starter solenoid. Back "in the day" you could crawl under the car with a small ball peen hammer and smack the little guy a few times and you could get the car started.

Not anymore. To get to the starter you need to remove the exhaust manifold! What is the sense in that?

Are there any car designers out there who can tell me why we have now designed our vehicles so that commonly replaced items are inaccessible?

Sadly I am in the "throwing tools and swearing" school of mechanics.

Tomorrow I will discuss the manly art of swearing.
